Keum boo is a technique for fusing 24k gold foil to silver. You first have to use depletion gilding to bring fine silver to the surface of your sterling. You do this by annealing the silver repeatedly until you see only white. It took me about 7 times annealing, pickling using a brass brush to get the proper surface. It’s a long process, but the gold foil won’t stick otherwise. It’s usually suggested to use a hotplate when fusing the gold to the silver.. I found this to be awkward and hot so I use a charcoal block instead. It retains the heat and is more flexible to use. You learn a lot about metal with this process and become intimately familiar with your piece.
